Deck Forge: Zaxara, the Exemplary

Cards like Mana Echos give us extra mana for each token we create. Impact Tremors is a cheap and innocuous little enchantment that will keep pecking at opponents’ life totals. You need to be able to stop the opponent’s scary thing. We will probably not run a lot of creatures, so it is important we can destroy, exile, or bounce our opponents’ threats when they come swinging for us. Finally, it’s important to remember that the best deck for you is one that you enjoy playing.

Mossborn Hydra is also terrifying if it’s allowed to grow. While Rampaging Baloths isn’t quite as terrifying as those other two, it will still generate a sizeable army of Beast tokens to press an attack or hold the fort if your life total is low. Then there’s Decoction Module, which gives you an energy whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control. The four-mana activated ability can be useful in returning a creature you control to its owner’s hand, and if you’re casting it with Nissa’s ability you’ll more easily have that four mana available. First, let’s take a look at the high synergy cards for a Nissa, Worldsoul Speaker deck as calculated by EDHREC.

These are the kind of cards that really elevate a deck into high power. To summarize, as long as we understand what our deck wants to ramp towards (or doesn’t), we can adjust our ramp to that and evaluate those ideas after seeing it in action. This Commander deck building template is just here to give us a rough outline to start with and help us understand the implications of running more or less ramp. Building a Commander deck can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also be overwhelming with so many options to choose from. That’s where a Commander deck building template comes in handy. A template can provide a helpful framework for organizing your ideas and ensuring that you have a balanced and effective deck.

Don’t buy a no-name deck box without seeing customer pictures first. Satin Towers always feel a little hard/ awkward to open to me, and the little dice tray is useless to me. I have a cool GameGenic storage thing that holds a bunch of dice and tokens. I like that Boulders are smaller, and I also like the plastic they’re made of a lot more.

For me, I always use Dragon Sheilds for inner and outer sleeves, and Ultra-Pro for every other accessory. My current travel deckboxes are Ultra-Pro Marble Satin Cube. I bought the one and was satisfied so I bought a 2nd one in another color. If using DS perfect fits + dual matte sleeves with these, I recommend putting the 99 in first, then the resting the commander across the top.

In Commander, where games tend to be longer and mana-intensive, ramp is essential. Mana rocks (artifacts that tap for mana) are a common choice, but creature-based ramp and land ramp are also viable options. The ideal number of ramp spells depends on your commander’s cost and your overall strategy. A lower-cost commander might need less ramp, while a commander costing five or more mana will benefit from having plenty. Aim for around sources of ramp, and remember that ramp that also draws cards can be extremely powerful. Looking for energy cards available in a mono-green deck shows a huge list of playable options.

Counters and Removal

There’s a surprising number of Scarecrows available these days if you want to really push that theme. Roaming Throne goes into any deck that cares about a particular creature type, but since it’s an artifact creature it’s particularly good here, letting you make twice as many goaded crows for everybody. Scaretiller does cool things if your deck build can tap it outside of combat and you get lands into your graveyard reliably. Pili-Pala offers up a flying Scarecrow with a little bit of color-fixing if you need it. Duskmourn even brings us three brand new Scarecrows that easily slot right in here. The Swarmweaver makes flying Insect tokens, and if you achieve Delirium any Insects and Spiders you get +1/+1 and have deathtouch.

Commander Deck Spotlight: Legendary Builds for EDH

This gives you a ton of flexibility; you can make Eldrazi Spawn tokens, or you can scry and draw a card, or you can exile a creature, or exile cards from a graveyard. How do you have a blue or white creature in your Golgari deck? Scuttlemutt also gives you extra mana if you don’t need any color-changing shenanigans. There’s an interesting subtheme among some of the Scarecrows that cares about you controlling a particular color creature. Wingrattle Scarecrow has persist if you control a black creature (like a Bird or Rendmaw itself), and if you somehow control a blue creature, it has flying.

I prefer the BCW Spectrum Prism deck boxes over the boulders. They’re a couple bucks cheaper but for me they’re easier to open and they hold a few more tokens than Boulders. Here’s another vote for Bastion XL, perfect for double sleeved decks. I’m having to replace three of my Ultrapro satin towers because they became sticky on the outside. They were packed with the rest of my cards and deck boxes for years, and everything else is fine. I always mix-match the halves and adorn them in stickers, lol.

What is the ideal Commander deck composition?

He can block in the early game effectively then carry the game with his abilities late. Reducing Legendary spells by combos edh mana might not seem like a lot, but the deck is filled with so many Legends this will build up to so much ‘ramp’ over the course of the game. Being able to recur threats over and over at the expense of 2 other Legend cards is very strong.

Check out this article for some helpful tips on how to playtest your deck effectively. However, it’s worth noting that not everyone enjoys running a high number of tutors in their deck. Some players prefer a more unpredictable or varied game experience, and find that running too many tutors takes away from the excitement of the game. The reason why we run interaction is to slow down our opponent’s game plan and hopefully keep them from winning before we do. But here’s the deal, how much we want to interfere with our opponents’ scheme is very dependent on our own preference, meta, past experiences and so forth. Needless to say there is no perfect preset number since there are so many factors to consider when building a deck.

Removal (

After writing this guide I can’t wait to buy a copy of this deck. It has a lot of potential and the win conditions leave many options to explore. The limitations of our budget and the number of cards we want to add as a first step shape some choices.

Although they are a bit tighter fit, I like the vault x eco tec. I use the Gamegenic Sidekick 100+ XL for all my decks. In my experience those are the best boxes, I wouldn’t recommend any other I’ve tried. As long as you don’t have many foils and aren’t using the DS perfects that have the extra tuck flap, you’ll be fine.
